Tania Bruguera in "Legacy"
Quote: "As a political artist, I always want my work to have consequences"
Reaction: This quote caught my attention because it makes me think about what message I want my final project to give. This really shows how she wants her work to go against the normal reaction that people have when it comes to art she wants it to go against systems, question different systems, and draw attention to social injustices. I feel as though art activism is made to provoke certain ideas making people forced to pay attention to the issues.
Quote: "We tried to think about a practice of art history that is not about the metaphor, it's rather about generating a kind of engagement that needs a user and initiator"
Reaction: I think this was an important quote the whole idea of art performance. With regular art your usually trying to figure out the significance through symbolism and or through images but with art performance it's more to do with an experience. It also talks about the interaction element when it comes to the performance pieces by talking about the initiator and user as he audience needs to engage or even play into the the performance part.
The royal academy
Quote: "If I really die in May, I will be the first dead artist in 255 years of the Royal Academy. But guess what, I am here!”
Reaction: Marina’s joking a little, but also being real. She had a health scare and people might’ve thought she wouldn’t make it. So she’s saying, “Even though I was close to death, I made it—and I’m standing here now, alive and present.” It shows her strength and her sense of humor in the face of something really serious. It also reflects how committed she is to being part of this historic moment at the Royal Academy.
Qoute: “My purpose as a performance artist is to stage certain difficulties and stage the fear—the primordial fear of pain, of dying... and then stage them in front of an audience... and tell the audience, ‘I’m your mirror; if I can do this in my life, you can do it in yours."
Reaction: She’s saying that her art is about facing the hardest parts of being human—fear, pain, even death—and doing that openly, in front of others. She wants people to see her struggles and realize that they’re not alone. By putting herself through these intense experiences, she hopes people watching will feel stronger and more capable of facing their own fears. It’s kind of like saying i went through it and survived and so can you.
Her legacy
Quote: “Many people cried just from sitting across from me... I was curious what happens in our brains when we just look at one another.”
Reaction: She noticed something powerful: just sitting silently and looking someone in the eyes made people super emotional—some even cried. And that surprised her. It shows how strong human connection can be when we slow down and really see each other. No phones, no talking, just being fully present. She’s fascinated by how rare and meaningful that kind of moment is.
Quote: “When you perform it is a knife and your blood, when you act it is a fake knife and ketchup.”
Reaction: She’s saying that performance art is real—you’re not pretending. You're actually putting yourself on the line, emotionally or even physically. It’s raw and personal. Acting is more like playing a role, where everything is staged and safe. But when Marina performs, it’s her truth, her pain, and her presence. No scripts, no faking.
Perennial Land Short Response
My experience at the Perennial Land Data Forest was a cool experience. It encouraged performance by users stepping into the frame of the camera and being able to connect to art digitally, I think overall it was a cool experience I actually felt like I was in some of the landscapes they were showing with the visuals and even the sounds so it made me feel connected to the art piece, at one point I forgot where I actually was and kept interacting with the piece. I feel as though I connected more when it was interactive because there was a clip where garbage was falling from the sky and I tried to hit it away to protect the beach from the liter so I do feel like the interactive piece helped solidify the message. It challenged me to think of fun interactive ways to get people to interact with my final project.
