Tania Bruguera:
Quote: "The strategy of the Immigrant Movement project is to open the door to things you already know. So by you coming into something that you already know, you feel that you understand what's going on and then, after, walk you towards other places you don't know."
Response: I like the approach that Tania Bruguera made for this project. She wants the audience to be informed with things that they already know and I think this is a good way to bring in their attention and to keep them on the same page. Having them walk "towards other places you don't know," feels as if your telling the audience "Okay since you understand what's going on, we can show you something that might make you second guess if you really understand what is happening."
Quote: "The people in the Immigrant Movement are using art to empower themselves and to change as people and to change as human beings."
Response: This statement really emphasizes the influence art can have. Art can empower people or allow humans to express themselves in a manner they never had to chance to before.
Royal Academy:
Quote: "the critical aspect of the performance is that there is no language used there is no exchange of words it's entirely a relationship build of physical communication and gesture"
Response: I see this performance similar to that of Yoko Ono's "Cut Piece" as both involve the artist to sit down with no words or expressions and to have the audience engage with them.
Her perspective/legacy:
Quote: "which is very interesting about legacy, what you going to leave after you die. But one thing you can leave always is a good idea and I really wanted to have this good idea to live after me."
Response: This quote gives great depth to what legacy really means. Not everything lasts forever. People will grow old and die but before they die they can leave an idea that will remain on Earth through the minds of humans. A quote that I have heard in the past that reminds me of this video is "The goal isn't to live forever. The goal is to create something that will
Perennial Land Project Response:
During my recent experience at the exhibition of Perennial Land - The Data Forest, I was able to witness performance art by environmental activists. The way this artwork enhanced the audience's experience was by the visual effects and statistics they used. They made the statistics clear to read and the visuals they used brought my eyes attention to nowhere else but the screen. The way the creators encouraged us to participate was by having 5 to 6 students stand in this wide box and simply walk around and do any motion we wanted. In this area there is a camera that catches our movements and projects them on the screen with visuals such as light, sand, or mist. The participation part made me feel as if I was there in nature and had become one with it. The way this performance art changed the way I see their message was by providing me with information that I was not aware of about the environment. My visit here was most definitely memorable and I will use this experience to help me figure out as to what I will do for my final intervention. The interactive part opened my eyes as to what I can do in my performance art.
