tania bruguera
“as a political artist, i always want my work to have real consequences.”
- with performance art and political artist, they want the audience to have a reaction. for the audience to feel something, the audience to engage with the art. tania wants her art make the audience feel some sort of emotion, how her performance art/political art can affect the people in america. how her political art can been seen as ‘powerful’ to one person but, can be seen as ‘terrible representation’ to another person.
“the major goal of immigration movement at the beginning was to rethink the political representation of immigrants.”
- for the last couple of years, immigrants are seen as a ‘border-jumper’ or ‘alien’. the citizens of american think that immigrants don’t have the right to vote or don’t have a say in what our government does with the county. the political representation of immigrants isn’t good, immigrants hold a smaller percentage in state elections and the lack of means to run for office, low civic awareness, and language barriers are some of the obstacles that immigrants may have when trying to participate in politics.
marina abramovich
“…her works involve extraordinary endurance and physical hardships…”
- marina’s work can depict many things, loneliness, depression, rage, etc. there’s this somber background on a couple of her works, you can, sort of, feel the energy. her works can also depict as something political, the government becoming more corrupt, dictatorship within the country, things that represent hardships. i think, marina’s works is something i’ve never really seen, so it’s pretty nice to try and see what her works are representing.
marina abramovich: perspective/legacy
“… because it’s not just third perspective of my performers’ work, it’s what really stands from some kind of historical view, what performers can be, and how the performers can enter the museum, and how can-be performers collected from the museum, and what happen if a performer die, if the work can be re-performed, can be continued, and what kind of roles that will take.”
- marina’s performers each have their own stories to tell with the performance. their performances shows what the performers have endured in their lives. people have different things going on in their lives, and we, as the audience, want to nitpick/know what’s the meaning behind the performers’ work.
perennial land project: after the theater trip
- the visit to the theater was much better than seeing the exhibition, online. you’re witnessing the art right in front of you and you get a much better understanding of the meaning of the exhibition, and the artists who made the project answered questions that we (the audience) had, about the exhibition. the exhibition encouraged participation by having the audience going up to the front and moving around. the audience is moving with the screen, as the screen changes from forest to cliff and ocean, to desert, to the rainforest. it was a confusing, but nice experience. the only section i got from the participation was the rainforest and how they added data supporting the rainforest section. the experience was effective because it sort of gave me an idea for my final intervention project.
