why advocate for black lives matter?
growing up, i have been around people of color, specifically hispanic/latino(a) and black people. i’ve had friends who are black and are proud to be black. and i admired their confidence, the way black people can be themselves, the way they advocate for each other, support each other, without being looked at, as a ‘criminal’ or a ‘drug dealer’. i was also (and still am) an a supporter of the BLM movement, during the 2020 BLM movement, in regards of the death of george floyd, i felt the need to advocate, not just for the death of one innocent black man, but others who were murdered by the hands of police.
poster/interactive breakdown:
three posters; one that says ‘black lives matter’ a second one, which says ‘no justice, no peace’ and ‘honk if black lives matter’. i will also create business card-like (or information cards) which will have art (made by me) and i plan to create a google survey, on the back of the card, asking three questions:
1. are you black, white, hispanic/latino(a), asian, middle eastern, mixed. etc?
2. if you are black, are you proud to be black? if so, what gave you the confidence to be proud of yourself?
3. if you are not black, do you support the BLM movement? why or why not?
what’s the concept of the intervention?
i plan to take the information cards at my job and hand them out to customers (during my shift) and tell them about the survey (i will ask my manager for permission before starting this) i also plan to go to three locations, and hold up the ‘honk if black lives matter’ sign. the other two posters, i haven’t decided where to place them yet.
