1. “Art can be a powerful tool for social change.”
This quote really speaks to the idea that art isn’t just about looking nice it can actually make a difference. Whether it’s a painting, a protest poster, or even a social media post, art has the power to make people think and push for change. Kimberly Drew shows how artists throughout history have used their work to fight injustice, and it makes me think about how creative expression is just as important as activism.
2. “There is no one way to experience art.”
I love this quote because it reminds us that there’s no “right” way to engage with art. Some people appreciate it by going to museums, while others find it on the streets or online. Drew encourages people to engage with art however they connect with it, instead of feeling like they need to be experts. It makes me think about how sometimes art spaces feel exclusive, but really, anyone can enjoy and interpret art in their own way.
3. “Representation in the art world is not just important it’s necessary.”
This quote highlights how crucial it is for different voices to be included in art. For a long time, mainstream museums and galleries have mostly showcased white, male artists, which means so many important stories have been left out. Drew emphasizes that when more Black, queer, and marginalized artists are given space, it allows more people to see themselves reflected in art. This made me think about how representation in media and art affects the way people see themselves and the world around them.

I chose this piece because in my opinion it screams there’s a need for change, normally when you’d see a child get punished for something thing they’d go write something over add over on the white board. You see a white policer officer doing the same thing, writing Black Lives Matter repeatedly in a write board as punishment. I love this piece and them message behind it
Exhibition Title: Voices of Change
Theme: This exhibition would focus on how artists use their work as a form of activism, protest, and empowerment. It would showcase pieces from marginalized artists who challenge injustice, and push for a more inclusive future. The goal would be to highlight how art is not just about beauty it’s about making an impact.
