Draft Project Post - Angel Gonzales

Chapter 9 Utopia, The Art of Activism:

Quote: "They resist and object to discussing their own success. It’s as if they are afraid to allow these thoughts to enter their minds because acknowledging them will make it too difficult to return to the everyday reality of set backs and struggle."

Response: This quote is very deep and can honestly relate to most people. I think there are people who love to day dream and have a fantasy world in which they are on top and very successful. But, there are also many people who don't want to wander off in their dreams because their dreams are far away from the truth. It makes them feel let down that their reality is not what they had hoped for. Some people aren't where they want to be in life.

Quote: "That’s what this chapter is about: using our imagination to establish goals that inspire people, provide direction, and stimulate creativity, helping others to envision different ways of seeing and feeling. It is about finding utopia."

Response: This quote feels inspirational. It is as if the author is telling me to make my dreams come true and to use those imagination worlds that are in my mind where I am successful as motivation to keep on grinding in order for them to become reality. The more you envision things the more real it gets.

For my final project, I will be performing performance art based around spreading awareness of homeless veterans in America. During my performance I will be sitting on the floor with a sign that says, "Saying "Thank you for your service" isn't enough." There will be a hat laying in front of me for people to drop spare change in. Instead of using real money, I will be giving the audience sticky notes or index cards and have them write whatever amount they want, but the amount has to be realistic like 50 cents or a dollar. They can't write a thousand dollars on it as that is not realistic. After each person drops their money into the hat, I will be handing them a note that tells them statistics about the rate of homeless veterans in the U.S. Statistics such as "In January 2024, 32,882 veterans were experiencing homelessness in the US." This performance art is to tell people about the cruel reality that despite these men giving up their lives for our freedom, they will still be left behind by our government.
