hello my name is zoe Boston I am currently a freshman at njcu studying sports management. I am very interested in sports and love them. I will say I wasn’t too big on art until I realized that it is more than drawing on a piece of paper. I enjoy making poems on my own time and I paint here and there even though it isn't my strong suit .
I wouldn’t consider myself an activist but I do have strong opinions when it comes to politics. I also was very amazed with the “Black Lives Matter movement” it interested me in protest and things if that sort.
Understand patriarchy
quote 1 - “the first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence towards woman, but the violence of self mutation”
response- this quote touches how Patriarchy affects not just women but men as well. By now allowing traditional masculine things that suppress empathy or any emotion. That’s a good examplE bow patriarchy affects everyone.
Quote 2- "patriarchal rules still govern most of the world's religious, school systems, and family systems."
response- I feel like the quote suggest that patriarchal still values things that remain in society and still influence society such as school systems or family systems even religious institutions .
what memes own to art history
“Memes are the folk art of the internet, a genre that harnesses the power of images and humor to comment on the world”
memes are the internet version of social commentary. People use memes and jokes to call out things . They use humor and pictures to make a point.
“Memes operate as a form of visual shorthand, distilling complex ideas and emotions into easily digestible and highly shareable”
Memes can simple maybe things easier to take it and can make certain news fun and easy to share.
memes are our generation protest
"These weren’t just jokes, but a way to name and call attention to a kind of racism that was rarely talked about."
response : my takeaway from this quote was that memes can be used as a platform to spread or bring attention to things like racism. You can bring things to light by using a sense of humor like memes .
“A meme might not change the world, but it might change someone’s perspective.”
response : i feel like a meme definitely won’t change the world but it definitely can expand someone’s take on things . Seeing a meme can make things more relatable and be put into different perspectives.
