Hi. I'm AL. No, I'm not an activist. I like art. I'm bald. And I love skittles.
I like challenging people and I think the best way to do so, at least for me, is through a game
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Understanding Patriarchy
"These changes in his thinking and behavior were triggered by his desire to be accepted and affirmed in a patriarchal workplace and rationalized by his desire to get ahead."
>> It's a shame what peer-pressure can do to a person. Especially a person like the author's brother who readily lowers his moral guard in exchange for companionship. It's not his fault though, really. It's societies fault for falling behind on the progression train.
"we must envision alternatives to patriarchal masculinity. We must all change."
>> Agreed. This issue is too wide and deeply rooted into generations of family and social systems. We would need community and reeducation efforts to redefine masculine and feminine gender roles to achieve a more progressive future.
What Memes Owe to Art History
"memes are hardwired with an unpredictability and a “hackable” interface or template that can be easily appropriated and overwritten—anyone can make a meme"
>> I remember my 8 y.o. nephew making memes on his phone in less than a couple of minutes. The art of meme's are so incredibly accessible that even my kid nephew understood the concept of making one and the humor behind it.
"arguing that memes are not just jokes, but rather have the potential to be more sinister than what meets the eye."
>> Meme's being too accessible can be detrimental especially when it comes to spreading false information about an individual. And if it's catchy it's easy for it to go viral causing harm on a massive scale.
Memes Are Our Generation's Protest Art
"Schaaf pointed to how memes are primed for instant reactions to topical events"
>> I think not only is it entertaining to see meme's as a response to an event good or bad but it's also in a sense a gauge, a thermometer, on how a lot of people are feeling about whatever that thing may be.
"These weren’t just jokes, but a way to name and call attention to a kind of racism that was rarely talked about."
>> What helps with these activist meme's being so effective is that it's a protest spoken in a language that's readily available to most of the younger generation. Shaping their minds to hopefully point their moral compass to the right direction.
